50 years on the Gunflint (told in one hour)

Date: August 26, 2022

Time: 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Event Description

With Betty Hemstad, Betty has always had an interest in the natural world. In the 1970’s she and her husband Ron introduced their family to the Gunflint Trail and built a cabin on Gunflint Lake. While enjoying the wildflowers she photographed them in all their seasons and the Minnesota Historical Society published her book, “Wildflowers in the Boundary Waters, Hiking through the Seasons.” In 2005 she accepted the challenge of chairing the project of rehabilitating the Chik-Wauk Lodge into the Chik-Wauk Museum and Nature Center with the help of hundreds of willing volunteers.

Betty will invite you to explore the highlights of her experiences during the last 50 years as a summer resident on the Gunflint. You will see through the lens of her camera many of nature’s wonders from the Wildflowers, the Wild Wind, the Wild fires, and the Wild Animals to the Wilderness Museum… and a few more surprises.

All presentations are family-friendly and free to the public. Donations are always appreciated.
