snowmobiling in lutsen mn Spring conditions

Last report of the year. It was a tough snow year with around 60% of our usual snowfall. That said we had a warmer than normal January and overall enjoyed the season.

Spring skiing conditions are excellent at Lutsen and they will be open April and possibly May!

Conditions: We are in "spring" skiing season with trails hard and icy in the cold periods and slushy in the warm periods. There will likely be bare patches showing up as the melt continues.
The hiking trails are largely packed by use but expect difficult conditions on stairways and icy spots. Traction devices are recommended if you are going to be hiking.
Snowmobiles trails are thin with several recently appearing bare spots on the trails.
Trail conditions will degrade quickly as the temperatures rise.

Grooming has ceased for the season and all of our equipment will be returned to storage tomorrow. Some of the trail gates have been closed and locked for the off-season.

We want to thank all of you who financially contributed to our organization; it is very much appreciated. We also thank all of our board members for their continued work to make this organization viable and progressive. A big thank you goes out to our main groomer, Darren Peck, who is totally committed to making this trail the best anywhere. I think he is succeeding.

UPDATE: Summer Home Road and Campground Loop were groomed again this morning and still have a thick trail base yet. Should get several more days of great skiing out of these two trails in particular.

The ski trails are still open and skiable. Conditions are best from around 10am to 2pm – after that early morning icy layer softens up but not so late into the day where things get mushy. Expect typical spring skiing conditions. Some trails have burned through to dirt in some places. Other trails have good snow coverage yet.

Most trails were last groomed on the 11th of March, except for Summer Home Road, Campground Loop, Beaver Dam, and Ox Cart, which had enough base to be groomed again on the 15th. Summer Home Road and Campground Loop were both groomed again this morning (March 16th) and have a thick trail base yet. We should get several more days of great skiing out of these two trails in particular. Unless we get more snowfall, we will not be doing any additional grooming on other trails for the remainder of the season. We will update again if we get additional snowfall or if the trails become un-skiable.
For the most up to date grooming information, as well specific trail conditions, please contact Bearskin Lodge (218-388-2292) or Golden Eagle Lodge (218-388-2203). Central Gunflint Ski Pass Required.
