Vacation Guide 2017
SUPERIOR
NATIONAL
FOREST
Glacial grooves scratched into whalebacks,
penetrating river gorges, stands of virgin
white pine - this is the genius of the North
Shore. The beauty of the land is striking.
Our semi-rugged topography climbs to
Minnesota’s highest peak, Eagle Mountain
at 2,301 feet, and plunges to the cold depths
1,333 feet below Lake Superior. This makes
for a heckuva backyard, and a big one at that.
So, schedule in some play time.
The Superior National Forest is
three million acres. Of course,
445,000 acres of that is lakes and
ponds and then there are the 2,250
miles of streams and rivers and
the million-acre Boundary Waters
Canoe Area Wilderness. Plenty of
room for all of us to hike, ski, bike,
snowmobile, hunt, berry pick, bird
watch, fish, paddle, wildlife watch,
listen and enjoy.
Stop at the [82.4] Tofte and [109]
Gunflint Ranger Stations for
information about what to see and
do.
