Date: January 31, 2021 - February 4, 2021
Time: All Day
The race commemorates the life of John Beargrease, the son of a Chippewa chief who delivered mail by dog sled along Lake Superior’s rugged North Shore in the late 19th century.
The most challenging race in the lower 48, the Beargrease is a qualifying race for Alaska’s famous Iditarod. The grueling contest marks a 400-mile route from Duluth to Gunflint Lake on the Canadian border and back. A shorter, mid-distance race goes one-way on the route, full marathon doubles back on same route.
Spectators can watch these amazing teams pass by – checkpoints are accessible by car and allow close-up access to the teams.
