skating rinks and sliding hills

duluth & north shore ice skating rinks

What better place to have Jack Frost nippin’ at your nose than a skating rink or sliding hill? Duluth and North Shore skating rinks are outdoors. If your pleasure is casually carving out a figures eight or an impromptu hockey game, lace up your skates and hit the ice. Duluth maintains over a dozen outdoor public rinks plus ice time is available for rent at indoor rinks .

Listed below are public skating rinks. Most rinks are open midweek afternoons and evenings, and all day weekends. They are free of charge or charge a nominal fee. Those with bathrooms tend to sell refreshments. It is best to bring your own skates, since rentals are far and few between.

Sliding / Sledding Hill

Grab your sled (or pick one up at a general store or gas station).

The only ‘official’ sliding hill on the shore is at Sweetheart’s Bluff in Grand Marais. Located in the Grand Marais Rec Area, the hill is open to all, at-your-own-risk and can be reached by heading south off Highway 61, then taking a right and heading west along the plowed road to the parking area. Sometimes the park even has a firebox for s’mores!
