Event Description
Where is the best place to get into the holiday spirit? The Julebyen (pronounced YOOL-eh-BE-en) “Christmas Village”. It is a centuries-old Scandinavian and German tradition celebrated with ethnic foods, crafts, holiday decorations, activities, and music. And its free!
Scattered across the village of Knife River, the best way to arrive is via the Julebyen Express train from Duluth! The train departs the Duluth Depot each morning and includes a free hour long side excursion to Troll Canyon.
Shop the Outdoor Market at the Gnome Dome, the indoor market at the Larsmont Rec Hall and – new this year – the Two Harbors Farmers Market. Sample Scandinavian treats at food trucks and bring something home from the Bakeri.
Talk with book authors, join the herring races, watch the Flag Parade and Dancers, visit with Santa, and if the weather cooperates, there will be snow sculptures and a sledding hill!
This small town festival is such a delight that it has become auite popular, so allow extra time for parking, walking, and enjoying.
