First Day Hike Hike at Gooseberry Falls State Park

Date: January 1, 2026

Time: 12:30 pm - 2:30 pm

Location: Gooseberry Falls State Park

Event Description

First Day Hike Hike at Gooseberry Falls State Park – Start the new year in a good way! Enjoy the stillness of winter on snowshoes, while we hike out to the Civilian Conservation Corps campground near the Gooseberry River.

We will welcome the new year surrounded by balsam and spruce as we look for animal signs. This is a wonderful way to connect with nature, get some exercise and set a positive tone for the year ahead.

We will be snowshoeing out to the CCC Campground, which is a 1-mile round trip. Afterwards, warm up by a cozy campfire, roast marshmallows and have some hot cocoa at the Visitor Center.

Bring your own snowshoes or rent a pair for free at the visitor center (first come, first serve for program participants). If there in not enough snow for snowshoeing, it will be a hike instead. Traction cleats are also available for free rental. All ages are welcome.

Meet at the visitor center, east of the wayside rest parking lot, where parking and park entrance is free.
