Life of the Voyageur: Smashing Myths and Discovering the Real Voyageurs

Date: March 16, 2022

Time: 5:30 pm - 6:45 pm

Event Description

Here in Minnesota, the voyageur of the fur trade has taken on an iconic role. Did they sing all day paddling and portaging, did they carry an unfathomable amount of weight while portaging? Where were they from, how short were they? Could they swim? Like Paul Bunyan has done for loggers, the myths of voyageurs often hide the truth. Join us as we uncover the true story of these beasts of burden. Presented by Karl Kloster, Ranger Karl Koster has been speaking and researching the Great Lakes/ Canadian Fur Trade for over 30 years. He has been with Grand Portage National Monument since 1997.

Partner:  Grand Portage Monument/Grand Portage National Park

This class will be held over Zoom. Register here
