Snowshoe Chair Lacing Workshop at Tettegouche State Park

Date: April 13, 2024 - April 14, 2024

Time: 9:00 am - 3:00 pm

Location: Tettegouche State Park Visitor's Center

Event Description

The craft of lacing snowshoes is uniquely North American in origin. In this workshop we will applying this craft to a rustic-looking and very sturdy indoor or outdoor chair by lacing pre-made wooden frames with a nylon webbing (which looks like rawhide after varnishing). Participants will be responsible for varnishing and assembling the chairs on their own at home after the workshop. Finishing the chairs at home is not complicated and instructions will be provided. A photo of the chair that we are making is available, via email, upon request.

There is a $325 materials fee for the chair kit.

Register for this program by emailing kurt.mead@state.mn.us. There will be a limit of 10 students. This is a two-day workshop.
