First Day Hike: A Winter Exploration
First Day Hike: A Winter Exploration

Gooseberry Falls State Park | Two Harbors

Start the New Year off on the right foot (and the left) with a two mile round trip winter adventure. We’ll be heading to where the Gooseberry River meets Lake Superior. The Naturalist will guide you along the snowy trail, interpreting the animal signs we find along the way, as well as sharing the rich history of Gooseberry Falls and the surrounding area. Snacks will be available afterward in the Visitor Center.

Bring your own snowshoes or borrow a pair from the park. There are a limited number of adult snowshoes, please call ahead to reserve a pair. Prepare with warm layers, sunglasses and water for the walk.

Route may change based on weather and snow conditions. We do need 6 inches of snow on the ground to snowshoe, if there is a lack of snow, a winter walk will occur. Cleat are recommended for the walk.

This program will be cancelled if the air temperatures are below -10F at the start of the hike.

First Day Hike
First Day Hike

Tettegouche State Park Visitor’s Center | Silver Bay MN

Meet at the Tettegouche Camp Trailhead on Lax Lake Road. Park vehicle permit is required.

Start the New Year off on the right foot (and the left) and join the park naturalist for a First Day Hike into Tettegouche Camp. The trail is groomed so snowshoes are not necessary, but bring them if you want. Once we cover the 1.7 mile trail in to the Camp, we will discuss the 100+ year history of Tettegouche Camp before we hike back out just before sunset.

Bring water and snacks for the hike and dress for the weather.

This program will be cancelled if the air temperatures are below -15F at the start of the hike.
