Downtown Silver Bay | Silver Bay MN
After much discussion, the Bay Days Committee has decided to cancel the 2020 Bay Days. There is a lot of uncertainty ahead in our communities and we feel it is not in our best interest to move forward with this event.
It is truly heartbreaking that we won’t be able celebrate our community this summer. We hope that you all understand.
Announcement: We will hold Bay Days + the All Class Reunion on July 9 – 11, 2021! Mark your calendars! We hope that life will be back to normal and we will all be ready for a long overdue hometown celebration!

Chik-Wauk Museum and Nature Center | Grand Marais MN
Chik-Wauk Campus opens for the season today and remains open until October 18 with hours from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm.
The response was so positive to the Tommy Banks and Billy Needham exhibit, we are continuing it through 2020.
Tommy Banks, a bootlegger and gangster from Minneapolis was active during the days of prohibition. Billy Needham lived on Bearskin and Hungry Jack Lake and became known for his diamond willow lodge furniture and hand drawn maps. The two men became friends on the shores of Hungry Jack Lake.
On loan from Mary and Gary Connell, who own Tommy Banks 1930s cabin are newspaper articles, photographs, and artifacts from the life of Tommy Banks and his cabin caretaker, Billy Needham.
A new exhibit opening for the 2020 season will be the Interpretive Cabin, built on the site of one of the former Chik-Wauk cabins that was removed during the sale to the USFS in 1978. Step back in time to view what a cabin might have looked like from the 1950’s era.
The Gunflint Trail Historical Society Board of Trustees and Chik-Wauk Staff look forward to seeing you this season!
