summer events on the north shore

North Shore Events

Each small town celebrates nature, arts and history, the great outdoors, local and regional talents, holidays and community. And you’re invited to join in. This North Shore Calendar of Events lists all kinds of goings-on; guided hikes, 99-mile bike races, fine art exhibits, pie-eating contests, solstice celebrations, historical talks, workshops, classes, summer festivals, small town parades, and the annual lighting of Split Rock Lighthouse.

Tettegouche event – Primitive Fire Starting

Date: June 2, 2024

Time: 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Location: Tettegouche State Park

Event Description

Without matches, lighters, or other modern tools, most of us would be in big trouble if we needed a fire. Learn traditional and historic fire starting technologies and try them out. We’ll be playing with flint-and-steel, bow drills, magnifiers, and other techniques including the use of native mushrooms and fungi to aid in your efforts. This is a drop-in event.
